Bhavani Shankar

Bhavani ShankarBhavani Shankar is Professor of International Food, Agriculture and Health at LCIRAH and SOAS, University of London. He is an applied economist working at the interface of agriculture, food, nutrition and health.

Bhavani has a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has held previous appointments at FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and at the University of Reading.  He has published widely in agricultural economics, development, nutrition and health journals, and has served as editor of Food Policy since 2011.

Bhavani co-leads the research theme, nutrition sensitive policies and strategies and represents LCIRAH on LANSA's management team. 

Derek Headey

Derek Headey is a Senior Research Fellow in the Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division at the International Food Policy Research Institute, where he joined as a postdoctoral fellow in 2008. A development economist, his research mostly focuses on the nexus between agricultural development and other development processes and outcomes, such as economic growth, structural change, poverty, nutrition, demographic change, and political processes.

Derek's research is on the impact of agricultural production condition on household and individual food consumption, also child nutrition outcomes including work on the drivers of nutritional change in Bangladesh.
 

Dominic Glover

Dominic Glover is a research fellow at IDS, specialising in the study of technology and processes of socio-technical change, particularly in small-scale farming in the global South. He has more than 14 years of experience in research, policy analysis and communication on technological change, innovation, knowledge systems, governance and policy processes relating to agriculture, biotechnology and rural development.

Elaine Ferguson

A senior Lecturer at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and LCIRAH, Elaine Ferguson's primary research focus is on the formulation and evaluation of food-based interventions to address under-nutrition. She also has an interest in nutritional assessment methodology  and operations research to strengthen nutrition programmes. Elaine has been involved in research in 16 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.  She has published 68 peer reviewed articles and 1 book.

Elaine is on the capacity strengthening team and contributes to our research theme that asks the question, "how strong is the evidence that agriculture can be pro-nutrition?".

Fahmida Akter

Fahmida is a staff researcher for the Food Security and Nutrition Research Unit of RED, BRAC. She has strong academic background in nutrition, food security and public health. She completed her MS in Nutrition and Food Science from INFS, University of Dhaka. Her areas of research interest are nutrition, public health, gender, WASH & development. She is fine-tuned in using specialized statistical software and has practical knowledge and experience on various research design and sampling strategy, instrument development, policy brief/report writing etc. Fahmida started her career as a researcher in the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), University of Dhaka. She has several published research reports and books.

Giacomo Zanello

Giacomo is a lecturer in Food Economics and Health at the University of Reading (UK). He is also a LCIRAH Fellow and a Research Associate at the Oxford University’s Technology and Management for Development Centre (TMCD). Previously he supported the work of the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition in its commitment to tackling global challenges in food and nutrition security.

Giacomo works on production diversity, food prices and diet diversity in Afghanistan for LANSA. 

Haris Gazdar

Haris Gazdar is a Senior Researcher at the Collective for Social Science Research. He has contributed widely to social science research and policy debates in Pakistan and elsewhere, and has taught as well as conducted academic research in the UK, India, and Pakistan. Besides academic and consultancy assignments, Haris has worked as an honorary adviser to research programmes, government and non-governmental organizations. His current research interests include poverty, hunger and nutrition, and social protection. He is also interested in innovative methods for making social science research more democratic.  Haris has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Hussain Bux Mallah

Hussain Bux Mallah is a Research Associate at the Collective for Social Science Research and has worked on social marginalization, urban issues, social protection, food security and nutrition projects. Hussain has done his Masters in Social Science from University of Sindh and Bachelor in Agricultural Engineering from Sindh Agriculture University TandoJam.

Hussain is part of the LANSA Pakistan research team. He is also a part of the Research to Action programme, an RU initiative helping grassroots leaders use evidence to influence policy and political action. 

Inka Barnett

A  Research Fellow at IDS, Inka is a nutritionist (LSHTM/University of Bonn) with a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge. Before joining IDS, Inka worked at QEH, University of Oxford, for the DFID-funded ‘Young Lives’ study on childhood poverty in four low income countries. Inka has worked with GTZ on agricultural interventions for communities affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa, famine early warning systems in Ethiopia, WASH in West Africa and nutrition interventions in refugee camp settings in Eastern Africa.

Iqrar Ahmed Khan

Picture of Iqrar Ahmad KhanDr Iqrar Ahmed Khan is convener of Agriculture Committee of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. Recognising his contributions to agriculture and food security, the Government of Pakistan has awarded him with Sitara e Imtiaz.

Since graduating from the University of California, Riverside with a Phd in 1988, Iqrar Khan has had a long career in education and agriculture. He is currently a Fellowof Pakistan Academy of Sciences. He has supervised over 90 graduate students and researchers and established a Center of Agricultural Biotechnology. He has established several academic links across continents and organised many international conferences and participated in numerous international meetings.

He released a potato variety (PARS-70), pioneered research on breeding seedless Kinnow and discovered new varieties of wheat. He is author of 250 publications, including five books and several book chapters. He also initiated programmes to address disease of citrus fruit and mangos.
