Jaideep Gupte

Jaideep Gupte is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, where his research is on urban violence, poverty and development. He was formerly a Research Fellow at the Urban Design Research Institute, Mumbai.

Jeff Waage

Jeff Waage, OBE, is Director of the London International Development Centre, a Professor at SOAS, University of London, and holds visiting positions at Imperial College, Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He has a particular passion for interdisciplinary research, and current research interests in international biosecurity policies, emerging diseases and capacity building in higher education for development.

Jessica Meeker

Jessica Meeker is a Nutrition Convenor within Knowledge Services team at IDS. Jessica has a Masters degree in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine and a background in research in nutrition and training.  At IDS Jessica has managed the knowledge sharing and research uptake activities for a number of nutrition research programmes, conducted evidence reviews on nutrition and agriculture and organised and facilitated stakeholder workshops in Africa and South Asia.

For LANSA

Jessica supported LANSA in stakeholder mapping and research uptake strategy development during the inception phase. Jessica provides ongoing support to help facilitate knowledge sharing amongst stakeholders.
 

Jim Sumberg

 Jim Sumberg is an agriculturalist by training and has over 25 years’ experience working on small-scale farming systems and agricultural research policy in sub- Saharan Africa and Latin America. He currently works as a research fellow at IDS, focusing on young people and agriculture and the emergence of the Livestock Revolution.

Previously he served as Programme Director at The New Economics Foundation and Senior Lecturer in Natural Resource Management in the School of Development Studies, University of East Anglia. He has also held research positions at WADRA - the Africa Rice Centre, the International Livestock Centre for Africa, CARE International and the Gambian Livestock Department.

Joachim von Braun

Joachim von Braun is Director of the Center for Development Research (ZEF), Bonn University, and Professor for economic and technological change.  His research is on economic development, science and technology policy, poverty reduction, food and nutrition security. He is chair of the Bioeconomy Council of the Federal German Government; Vice-President of the NGO “Welthungerhilfe”, Vice Chair of the Board of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).

von Braun is member of academies of science, incl. the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Vatican. He was Director General of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) from 2002 to 2009.

John McDermott

John leads the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Improved Nutrition and Health. Previously, he was deputy director general and director of research at the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi.

John’s research has focused on public health, animal health, and livestock research in developing countries, primarily Africa. He has led projects on zoonotic and emerging diseases in Asia and Africa.

M Syeduzzaman

Picture of M SyeduzzamanM Syeduzzaman’s posts include Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Finance, Planning, and External Assistance, Minister for Finance (technocrat), Minister for Planning, and Alternate Director for the World Bank.

While in Government, M Syeduzzaman was a member of the Food Policy Monitoring Unit in the Ministry of Food, Board of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, and Chairman of the Board of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, the prime economic research institute of the Government.

Syeduzzaman has worked with many UN agencies. He is a Trustee Member of the Centre for Policy Dialogue, the leading think tank in Bangladesh and Chairman of the Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh. He has served in various capacities for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and International Rice Research Institute.

Madhura Swaminathan

Madhura Swaminathan is Professor at the Economic Analysis Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, and Chairperson of the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. She was a member of the United Nations Committee on Development Policy from 2013-15. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Review of Agrarian Studies. Her interests are in development economics, agriculture, food security, the informal sector, human development, poverty and inequality, and women in the work force.

She is the author of Weakening Welfare: The Public Distribution of Food in India (2000; also in Telugu and Tamil translations). She has co-edited, with V. K. Ramachandran, Agrarian Relations in Less Developed Countries (2002), Financial Liberalization and Rural Credit (2005) and Dalit Households in Village Economies (2014).

MARA VAN DEN BOLD

Mara van den BoldMara van den Bold IFPRI is a Research Analyst in IFPRI’s Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division (PHND). Prior to joining IFPRI, Mara worked in London at WaterAid, an international NGO focused on improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Mara holds an MSc in Anthropology and Development from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a BA in Anthropology and Latin American Studies from Union College, NY.

Maria del Mar Maestre Morales

Mar Maestre has over seven years of experience working in business and international development. Research interests and current project include agri-food value chains, business engagement in nutrient-rich foods, public-private partnerships in development, and social entrepreneurship.
