Marium Ibrahim

Marium is a Research Assistant at the Collective for Social Science Research. Marium has a Bachelors in Psychology and Educational Studies from the Macalester College, USA, where she conducted an honours research project on the relationship between religion and well-being. She has also worked on qualitative and quantitative research in the areas of disability, social identity and belongingness.

Marium is part of the research uptake team for LANSA in Pakistan and also the Research to Action programme, a RU initiative helping grassroots leaders use evidence to influence policy and political action. 
 

Md. Abid-Ul-Kabir

Abid is working as a Senior Agronomist in Agriculture and Food Security Programme of BRAC. He has a Master of Science in Environmental Science from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. His work is focused on managing agricultural research project on different crops and cropping pattern, planning and executing social research on agricultural value chain addressing nutrition for the poor and pursuing climate adaptive research activities.

Md. Abid-Ul-Kabir is a working scientist specialising in Agricultural Value Chain research in Bangladesh for LANSA.

Md. Sirajul Islam

Sirajul Islam is the Programme Head of Agriculture and Food Security Programme of BRAC. He has more than 21 years of professional experience including teaching, research, consultancy and development work on Agriculture. His work is focused on planning and implementing the overall agriculture and food security programme of BRAC, doing innovative adaptive research on different crops, rice-based agricultural and aquaculture technology validation and dissemination in the farmer’s field for sustainable intensification of rice-based cropping and aquatic agricultural systems. Sirajul has a PhD in Agronomy from Bangladesh Agricultural University.

Meera Shekar

Meera Shekar is Global Lead for nutrition at World Bank. She led the repositioning of the nutrition agenda within World Bank and with partners resulting in the birth of the global Scaling-up Nutrition (SUN) movement. Meera has been one of the principals for the aid-architecture for the SUN, the G8 and G20 agenda-setting process for food security and nutrition. 

Meera has lived and worked across the globe and has her PhD in international nutrition, epidemiology and population studies from Cornell University. Among other publications, she has authored eTransform Africa: the Transformational use of Information and Communication Technologies in Africa, 2012; Repositioning Nutrition as Central to Development, 2006; and Scaling-up Nutrition –What will it cost? 2009. She has been a member of several advisory boards including the academic committee of the Public Health Foundation of India, WHO Nutrition Guidance Advisory group, Conference Advisory Committee for the First and second Global Conference on Bio-fortification, Cornell University DNS External Advisory Board, and Founding member of International Society for Implementation Science for Nutrition (ISISN).

Mehroosh Tak

Mehroosh Tak is a doctoral researcher with the Leverhulme Centre for Integrated Research on Agriculture and Health (LCIRAH) at SOAS. She is an applied economist working on the linkages between agriculture, food and nutrition. For her doctoral research Mehroosh is exploring how public investments in rural India can be made more nutrition-sensitive via investments in infrastructure and agriculture route. She has also worked with the Global Panel for Agricultural and Food Systems for Nutrition to better understand the drivers of food systems in low and middle-income countries.

Mehroosh is researching the role of state expenditures in improving dietary diversity in India.

MS Swaminathan

Picture of Professor MS SwaminathanProfessor MS Swaminathan has been acclaimed by the TIME magazine as one of the twenty most influential Asians of the 20th century and one of only three from India. He has been described by the United Nations Environment Programme as “the Father of Economic Ecology” and by Javier Perez de Cuellar, Secretary General of the United Nations, as “a living legend who will go into the annals of history as a world scientist of rare distinction”. 

Using proceeds from the World Food Prize in 1988, Professor MS Swaminathan set up MSSRF, the lead organisation behind LANSA.

Natasha Ansari

Natasha Ansari is a Research Associate at the Collective for Social Science Research and has previously worked with various development research organizations in Pakistan. She has also led an independent study on micro credit and development intervention models in Pakistan. Natasha graduated with a B.A with High Honours in Economics from Mount Holyoke College, U.S.

Nigel Poole

Nigel Poole is a socio-economist who originally trained in agricultural sciences and agricultural extension. He works in the Centre for Development, Environment and Policy in SOAS, University of London, and is part of the team of the Leverhulme Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health of the University’s London International Development Centre. He has experience in diverse countries in Latin America, the Mediterranean Basin, Sub-Saharan Africa and South and South-east Asia.

For LANSA

Nigel leads LANSA work in Afghanistan on agri-nutrition policy and stakeholder mapping, designing research on climate-agriculture-nutrition interactions, and assessing the nutrition impact of agricultural interventions. He also contributes to the work on agri-value chains for nutrition and health.

Nithya D J

Nithya D J is a Nutritionist at MSSRF with a doctorate degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. She has worked as Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology and Agricultural Engineering College in the field of Food Processing and Technology. Nithya has experience of training potential women entrepreneurs on value addition.

Nithya is responsible for the nutrition status monitoring surveys and nutrition education at various levels under LANSA in India.  

Nitya Rao

Professor of Gender and Development at the School of International Development, UEA, Nitya Rao has almost 30 years’ experience as a researcher, teacher, field-level practitioner and social activist, focusing on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Nitya has worked on research projects and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and books. Her book, "Good women do not inherit Land" was republished in 2012.

Nitya has worked with UN agencies, bilateral donors and NGOs. She was a member of UN Women’s Expert Group on economic agency and land rights and co-chair of the Global Advisory Committee of the UN Girls Education Initiative.
